Preparation and execution of APPA experiments in FAIR phase-0
Goethe-Universität Frankfurt am Main
During the funding period 2019-2021, the international FAIR project will start with first experiments concerning matter under extreme conditions. Within the "Verbundforschung" funding scheme the Technical University Darmstadt (TUD), the Friedrich Schiller University Jena (FSU), the Ludwigs Maximilian University Munich (LMU), the Technical University Munich (TUM), and the Goethe University Frankfurt (GU) together with GSI have united forces to create the instrumental preconditions for such experiments. Here, the target area is the central experimental facility of the HED@FAIR collaboration. The target chamber must be connected to the accelerator, allow for the use of alternative targets, and integrate sample exchange and positioning systems, the high-power laser and debris protection. During the FAIR phase 0, warm dense matter (WDM) will be generated via exploding wires. These dynamic targets will be investigated with the proton microscope PRIOR. A further goal of the present project is the development of novel x-ray diagnostics for the characterization of these extreme states of matter.
