Development of spectroscopic methods for day-1 plasma-physics experiments at FAIR
Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena
The international FAIR facility will enable experiments with relativistic heavy-ion beams at hitherto unattained intensities. These intense heavy-ion beams provide laboratory access to novel states of matter. In order to exploit these possibilities, the HED@FAIR collaboration under the APPA umbralla has devised a rich experimental program in the area of dense plasmas. To this end, an experimental installation is being set up in the APPA cave where solid state targets will be heated by intense ion-pulses. In the coming years until the start of FAIR operations (FAIR phase 1), this installation will be equipped with the required experimental tools such as target chamber and diagostic lasers. In addition, preparatory experiments will be carried out during FAIR phase 0 for the development of a x-ray based characterization of the ion beam and of a focossing of the ion beam with a plasma lense.
