Russia in FAIR

The Russian Federation signed the FAIR agreement in Wiesbaden on October 4, 2010.

The FAIR Convention as an agreement under international law between the contracting states continues to be legally valid. The Russian shareholder of FAIR GmbH is the state-owned organization Rosatom. The company agreement with the legal representatives of the contracting states (for Russia: Rosatom) also continues to be valid. According to the judgement of independent lawyers, at present there are no legal justifications for an exclusion under international or company law.

Until the start of the war in Ukraine in February 2022, Russian facilities were involved in the production of components for accelerators and experiments at FAIR. The contracts with Russian entities have been cancelled in accordance with the EU sanctions regime. All the necessary components can be manufactured without Russian involvement. The cancelled orders are being procured mainly in Europe as component replacements
