10.10.2017

On October 10, 2017, a delegation from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar visited FAIR and GSI: Prof. Manohar L. Munjal (Department of Mechanical Engineering), Prof. Rohit Y. Sharma (Department of Electrical Engineering and Associate Dean International Relations), Prof. Harpreet Singh (Department of Mechanical Engineering and Dean External Relations), and Dr. Pushpendra P. Singh (Department of Physics).

The delegation was welcomed by the NUSTAR Collaboration for a first exchange of ideas and opportunities in the FAIR project. This was followed by a round table discussion with the Scientific Managing Director of FAIR and GSI, Prof. Paolo Giubellino, the Research Director of FAIR and GSI, Prof. Karlheinz Langanke, and a delegation of FAIR and GSI department heads. The delegation of IIT Ropar expressed the wish to strengthen the ties to FAIR and GSI with exchange of scientific staff but especially the training of young students and researchers from IIT Ropar at FAIR and GSI. Therefore, besides possible contributions to NUSTAR and other scientific programs at FAIR, the participation in the “GET_INvolved Program” was discussed, which aims at providing international students and early stage researchers the opportunity to perform Internships or traineeships at FAIR and GSI. These future activities shall be formulated in a Memorandum of Understanding between FAIR/GSI and IIT Ropar.

After a business lunch with a lively discussion, the visit concluded with a guided tour around the GSI campus and a view on the FAIR construction site.
