32 students from countries, including Australia, Brazil, Burkina Faso, China, Mexico, Singapore, Sweden, Turkey, and the USA, participated in the International Summer University (ISU) at TUD. Among them were Bachelor of Engineering students representing the University of Massachusetts (USA), the University of Wisconsin (USA), and the University of Queensland (Australia). As part of their visit to a regional science institute, these students visited FAIR/GSI on July 11, 2023, where they had the opportunity to explore advanced technology, developments in GIS, and gain an overview of engineering knowledge related to the FAIR Facility.
ISU, an exceptional six-week program meticulously crafted to offer participants a profound understanding of cutting-edge German engineering technology, elevate their international language skills, and immerse them in the rich tapestry of German culture. The Hessian Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and the Arts (HMWK) is funding International Summer University which is hosted at 06 Universities and 05 University of Applied Sciences in Hessen This comprehensive experience seamlessly integrates engineering courses, enlightening company visits, intensive German language classes, cross-cultural competencies training tailored for engineers, and a diverse array of engaging social and cultural activities.
On July 11, 2023, students were filled with excitement as they arrived at the prestigious GSI/FAIR campus, led by Joerg Blaurock, the Joint Technical Managing Director of FAIR and GSI. Their objective was to explore the modernity and creativity of this exceptional research center.
"International research thrives on bringing diverse minds and perspectives. FAIR needs talented engineers and researchers to collaborate, envision, and help operating future of FAIR/GSI. This endeavor is not just significant for the advancement of science, but equally crucial for empowering young people with opportunities to make a lasting impact. " As Joerg Blaurock, the Joint Technical Managing Director of FAIR and GSI, rightly said in his welcome speech, our doors are wide open, inviting the young generation to embark on a transformative journey of innovation and discovery.
Throughout the tour, the students were in awe of the state-of-the-art facilities and the presence of world-class researchers who continuously pushed the boundaries of technology in natural sciences, computing, and engineering. The GSI/FAIR campus stood as a symbol of excellence, driving progress in scientific and engineering disciplines.
GSI/FAIR is not only a research center but also a melting pot of nationalities, fostering a rich and diverse environment for innovation to flourish. The students realize that they are not only participants but also future leaders, holding the key to shaping the world through the knowledge and experience gained in this extraordinary program.
The collaborative efforts between GSI/FAIR and HMWK are founded on the principle of shared goals and a commitment to excellence in research. Our strategic alignment with HMWK initiatives helps fortify the bonds between Germany, the USA, Australia, and other partner countries.
GSI/FAIR, in partnership with TU Darmstadt and H-DA, is passionate about nurturing the next generation of scientific minds. Our Outreach Campaign aims to inform and inspire young people worldwide, offering them a unique glimpse into the fascinating world of cutting-edge research. Our dedicated outreach campaign is designed to attract young engineers from all over the world, offering them internships within FAIR research teams through focused partner programs in North America and Australia. This presents an excellent opportunity for students to gain valuable experience and work alongside leading researchers in the field.
The International Summer University at GSI/FAIR has laid the groundwork for a transformative journey. It is a time to inspire, learn and interact effectively, igniting a passion for making a difference in the world.
