Some 40 international journalists specialised on building industry now visited the FAIR construction site to have a look at the giant rotary drilling rigs working there. Two of the machines called LB 44 are the largest rotary drilling rigs that are available on the European market. They were newly-developed by Liebherr and are used at the FAIR construction site for the first time to place piles the ground, and thus to stabilise the foundation ground so that this is able to bear the buildings and the sensitive detectors of FAIR.

The journalists coming from countries all over the world - from Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Russia, Spain, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK - were very interested in finding out about nuclear and particle physics, and also wanted to know why and how FAIR is being built. The trip has been organised by the company Liebherr International and will be continued to two other interesting sites in Germany and France.
