The Second Joint Helmholtz-Rosatom School devoted to FAIR Accelerators and Scientific Program and ITEP Winter School of Physics ‘Extreme States of Matter’ took place at Bekasovo, 19-26 of February 2012.

Following last year’s successful first Joint Helmholtz-Rosatom School for young scientists at Hirschegg, FRRC (Fair Russia Research Centre), HGS-HIRe and ITEP organized the second school this time in Russia at Bekasovo near Moscow. The goal of this school was again to expose the young FAIR scientist to ALL of the science projects at FAIR. With international expert lectures in the morning and a small part of the afternoon, intensive group work in the afternoon and evenings helped for a better and deeper understanding of the talks and allowed direct dialog between students and lecturers with ample time. In this second school, 16 students from the Helmholtz Graduate School for Hadron and Ion Research for FAIR in Frankfurt, 32 FRRC fellows from Russia and 4 young students from FAIR-India enriched the broad cultural mix of participants.

Annexed to that school was the ITEP Winter School of Physics on ‘Extreme States of Matter’, covering the theme of Plasma physics, one of the pillars of FAIR in the future in joint morning lectures. All in all more than 100 participants enjoyed the school and created a wonderful atmosphere.
