FAIR Council: Dr. Vierkorn-Rudolph re-elected, accelerator construction, tendering for civil construction

Dr. Beatrix Vierkorn-Rudolph, Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), has been re-elected as Chair of the FAIR Council. The FAIR Council assigned several accelerator components as in-kind contributions to institutes in Germany, India and Russia for FAIR. Following the €526M investment commitment by BMBF, the Council approved tendering for part of the civil construction of FAIR over 84 M Euro. 


The previous Chair will also be the new Chair: The FAIR Council unanimously re-elected Dr. Beatrix Vierkorn-Rudolph for two more years, starting from 4 October 2012.


Further decisions of the FAIR Council concerned certain accelerator components to be provided by Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics in Novosibirsk, Russia, D.V. Efremov Scientific Research Institute of Electrophysical Apparatus in St. Petersburg, Russia, GSI Helmholtz Center for Heavy Ion Research, Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna, Russia, and Bose Institute in Kolkata, India, and their subcontractors.


After the announcement of the €526M investment commitment for civil construction by BMBF the FAIR Council gave the green light for the tendering process for several sub-projects of civil construction such as the construction of site access roads and ground water measuring points. The tender procedure will be conducted by the state-owned company Hessisches Baumanagement.
