34th CBM Collaboration Meeting

The 34th CBM Collaboration Meeting took place from 29th Sept. to 3rd Oct. 2019 at the new campus of the Indian FAIR shareholder, the Bose-Institute in Kolkata. The meeting was preceded by the "CBM Software School" on Sept. 26 - 27, a Students Day on Sept. 28, and a workshop "FAIR and CBM - Prospects and Challenges" at University of Gauhati in Guwahati on Sept.28. About 100 participants discussed the status and next steps towards the realization of the CBM experiment until 2025. An essential intermediate goal in this respect is the successful commissioning of the miniCBM experiment at GSI/SIS18, which was one of the key points of the discussions. The director of the Bose-Institute, Prof. Uday Bandyopadhyay, participated in the CBM Collaboration Board meeting, where he expressed his strong interest in the collaboration with FAIR. An important event was the appointment of Piotr Gasik as the new CBM Technical Coordinator. Piotr Gasik, who was coordinating the upgrade of the ALICE TPC with GEM read-out chambers, and now coordinates their integration into the experiment at CERN, will succeed Walter Müller, who served as Technical Coordinator from the beginning of CBM, i.e. for more than 15 years. At the last evening of the meeting, the participants from Germany and the Indian hosts were invited for a Bengali dinner by Dr. Michael Feiner, the Consul General of Germany in Kolkata.
